Pendeford older people’s interest group

Des Halestrap writes,

Although not a St.Pauls group, Pendeford Older Peoples interest group meet at the Oasis and are supported by the Church.

This group started some years ago with half a dozen pensioners from Pendeford who felt they needed to join together to discuss mutual interests. It has grown to some 20 members who meet at 2.30 on a Thursday afternoon. Some afternoons we just buy tea from the cafe and sit around and discuss any subject we feel important. With our increased membership we feel bold enough to expand our interests. We were delighted to be asked by St.Pauls school to help the children complete their history project on the Second World War. We were surprised at the eager questions the children asked. We got as much from them as we gave.

We helped Jane James from the Wolverhampton Art Gallery on her work with dementia patients, winning a West Midlands Art award in the process from their health and art group.

Jane has arranged to give us a six week course on creative conversation starting 6th June.

In view of the big changes in the NHS we have started a Patient and Practice participation group at the local health centre. We have had an afternoon with the Health Centre Co-op Chemist.

I do hope that some of the St. Pauls Church pensioners may find time to join us.

See you there.
