(Advent) prayer for the week

An Advent prayer from Michael May:

Father be with us as we light our Advent candles.
Help us to open our eyes and see your love in our lives, and let us see the love that we share for each other.
We are thankful for all the ways you shine a light in our hearts.
We feel your love for us and we are so grateful for it.
Open our hearts to the people who have so much less than we do and the people whose lives are so full of pain they cannot see the light of your love.
Help us to carry your light to them, and see how we have brought light into someone’s life today.

Wear them with pride

Next Sunday (2nd December), Bishop Clive is coming to our 10:30am service to preach and preside as we bring our 30th anniversary celebrations to a close.  If you have bought a 30th anniversary t-shirt or sweatshirt, you are invited to wear it on the day.

Thanks to Val Morgan for the suggestion.

Prayer for the Week

Des Halestrap has offered this prayer, by Bede Jarrett, for our consideration and use:

May He give us the courage that we need
To go the way He shepherds us
That when He calls
We may go to him unfrightened

If He bids us come to Him
Across the waters
That unfrightened we may go

And if He bids us climb a hill
May we not notice that it is a hill
Mindful only of the happiness of His company

He made us for Himself
That we should travel with Him
And see Him at last
In his unveiled beauty
In the abiding city where He is light
And Happiness
And endless home

Winter Wonderland

There will be a community Christmas fair with carol singing, Santa, bouncy castle, roast chestnuts, stalls and more, Friday 7th December, 3-6pm on Pendeford Square and in the Oasis.

Could you help organise/run a Saint Paul’s Chruch stall at the Winter Wonderland?  Let Jim know if you are able to help.

Messy Church – ‘Waiting for God’

An Advent service for all ages together; make something creative, have some fun, make a mess and share some food.

This Sunday, 25th November, 4-6pm at Christ the King.

All are welcome, but let us know you’re coming by calling 07578 655345 or email chernit(at)

Oh no it isn’t!

Once again, Saint Paul’s will be putting on a pantomime in February half term week. “Cinderella” will run for four shows between Thursday 21st and Saturday 23rd February.  All members of Saint Paul’s Church (Year 5 and above) are invited to take part, acting or in other ‘backstage’ roles (there are no auditions).

If you’d like to take part, the sign-up sheet is now on the noticeboard at the back of church – please read the details on the notice about what’s involved before committing yourself.

For more information, speak to Geoff Cresswell.

Sew far, so good

The 30th anniversary altar cloth project is taking shape, but we still need your help.

Angie Bullock is holding a working evening at her house (5 Henley Road, Rakegate, WV10 6UY), this Thursday (22nd November), 6-9pm.  All who can offer assistance are welcome.
