More information about “3 peaks for Tom”

On Tuesday 19th June, fifteen walkers set off from the Oasis with 2 minibuses and 3 drivers.  They drove to Gateshead and then on Wednesday drove on to Ben Nevis.  Starting at 5:00pm, the walkers climbed Ben Nevis, finishing before it got dark.  They then drove on to Scafell Pike, arriving in the early daylight hours.  After finishing that climb, they continued on to Snowdown.

8 of the 15 walkers completed all 3 peaks (4 of them in less than 24hrs, the others not much longer).  Others completed 2.5 peaks and some 1.5.  Martin and Owen couldn’t take part due to injuries and they hope to do the challenge in the future.  However, Martin led the organising and it was most definitely a team effort and the challenge was completed.  WELL DONE TO ALL INVOLVED!  Sue and Bridget met the conquering heroes afterwards in Betws-y-Coed and shared a well-deserved meal.

The challenge was undertaken in memory of Thomas Ellick, to raise funds towards a new playground at Broadmeadow Special School.  Donations can still be made, either  to Bridget or online at www.3peaks4tom.co.uk or www.charitygiving.co.uk/3peaks4tom

I drove the first bit and, although it was late and it was dark and I was a bit tired by the end, I don’t remember Gateshead! I’m sure it was Glasgow!
