Correction – news from the ADCM

When listing the members representing Saint Paul’s on Deanery Synod, Chris May’s name was incorrectly posted instead of Eddie Baker’s name.  Apologies for any confusion.

More news from the Annual District Church Meeting

Saint Paul’s Church wouldn’t function anywhere near as effectively as it does without the help of these people.  Thanks to them for taking on the following roles for another year:

Churchwardens: Eddie Baker and Joan Phillips

Treasurer: Susan Fisher and Sue Ellick (shared role)

DCC secretary: Corrina Thacker

The big news from the annual church meeting, held last Sunday (22nd April) is that the Oasis is set to re-open as a café during May.  Sam Griffiths has agreed a deal with the church to run it as a business.  Please pray that this venture will be a success for Sam and that it will open new opportunities for us as a church.  Also, don’t forget to be a customer too!  More details will be posted here soon.

Churches Together Service for Christian Aid Week

Saint Paul’s will be hosting a Churches Together Christian Aid Week service on Sunday 13th May at 6:30pm.

If you would like to take part in the service by leading some (pre-written) prayers, or could offer your services to provide tea and coffee after the service, please speak to Rich Cresswell.

Christian Aid Week – can YOU help?

This year, Christian Aid Week falls between Sunday 13th and Saturday 19th May.  We need helpers to deliver and collect fundraising envelopes around Pendeford – this forms a vital part of our witness to the local community.

Marion, who is co-ordinating this year’s collection, says:
“I am hoping to encourage some new collectors to step forward… There are some roads with only 10 houses or less, so hopefully those new to collecting might consider a small road at least.”

Please seriously consider taking on a street or two in Pendeford to help fund raise for this fantastic charity… and once, you’ve considered it, please chat to Marion and  say “yes”!

Wednesday evening Bible Study

Wednesday evening Bible Study will be meeting weekly at 8pm at the Vicarage starting again on the 25th April.

All are welcome to come and discover more about the Bible while sharing together. No previous knowledge necessary. Just join in every now and then as we meet informally.  Please note the change of time!

Hearts and flowers

Des Halestrap has been using “New Daylight ” Bible reading notes and has found an interesting story which he would like to share here on the blog.

There was once a heart surgeon ,an atheist ,whose gardener was a Christian. They often discussed the question of God, but the surgeon remained unconvinced.

One day he thought he had clinched it.
“You know,” he said to his gardener, “I have cut open hundreds of human hearts in the course of my work and never found a soul in any of them.”.

The gardener had an answer;
“I too have accidently cut through hundreds of daffodil bulbs during the course of my work,” he said, “but never seen a daffodil inside them.”.

Radiance: Day of Spirituality

Saturday 26th May 2012, 10am-3:30pm at Saint Matthew’s Church, Walsall.

A day to help us with our praying.  All are welcome.  Costs £5 per person.

More details available on the posters/flyers in Saint Paul’s.

Church Councils – could YOU serve?

The Church Councils are the ‘governing bodies’ of the church.  Because Saint Paul’s is part of a team parish (working with Christ the King and Saint Michael’s in the Parish of Tettenhall Regis), we have two church councils:

The Parochial Church Council (PCC) has the legal responsibility for the parish, including worship patterns, wedding, funeral and baptism policy, appointment of ministers and matters of finance, buildings etc.

The District Church Council (DCC) makes decisions on matters specifically relating to Saint Paul’s.  The DCC has representatives on the PCC… or, to put it another way, if you serve on PCC you will also serve on the DCC of your church.

Could you serve on the DCC or PCC? Each year, new members are elected at the annual meeting.  Usually, you serve for three years.  If you would like to consider becoming a member of one of our church councils, please speak to Jim or to the DCC secretary, Corrina Thacker.

Elections will be held this Sunday, 22nd April, at the District Church Meeting after the 10:30am service.
