“Being Church”

What is church? What does the Church do? What does it mean to be “one, holy, catholic & apostolic”? How are we the Body of Christ?
Rich and Jenny Cresswell are running a four-week course exploring all these questions and more, starting Wednesday 11th January.
The material is produced by Emmaus, whose material we have used for adult Confirmation courses over the last few years, but it is suitable for all, whether you have been confirmed recently, attended church for years or never attended a church course in your life!

When: Wednesdays 11th and 18th Jan, 1st and 8th Feb, 7.30 to 9pm.

Venue: St Paul’s Church, Pendeford (in the Oasis)

There is no cost.

For more information, speak to Rich or Jenny (01902 716554)

You don’t have to let us know in advance if you plan to attend (we’ll make sure there are spare copies of the handouts), but if you think you’re going to be there, it would be really helpful if you could tell us beforehand.

Prayer for the (Christmas) week

Loving Father, help us to remember the birth of Jesus. That we may share in the song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds and the worship of the wise men.
Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world. Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting.
May the Christmas morning make us happy to be your children and Christmas evening we can go to our beds with grateful thoughts, for Jesus sake, Amen

Lord, this is our prayer not only on Christmas day but until we see your face may we live our lives this way. Amen

Quiet Christmas

Our evening service on Tuesday 20th December will be a “Quiet Christmas”.

Christmas is traditionally a time of gladness and celebration, a time when families gather together for parties and merriment.

But for those grieving the loss of loved ones, or whose family circumstances are difficult, it can be a very lonely, depressing, time. Somehow isolation is more painful when it seems that all the rest of the world is celebrating.

While the birth of the Christ child is rightly an event for joyful celebration, a quieter service, which acknowledges that not everyone is looking forward to Christmas and the New Year, can offer some people a way of honouring their mixed feelings at this special time. This service will help us to remember that God’s Word comes to shine light into the darkest places of life.

Prayer for the Week

Advent

Father be with us as we light our Advent candles.
Help us to open our eyes and see your love in our lives and let us see the love that we share for each other.

We are thankful for all the ways you shine a light in our hearts.
We feel your love for us and we are so grateful for it.

Open our hearts to the people who have so much less than we do
and the people whose lives are so full of pain they cannot see the light of your love.

Help us to carry your light to them and see how we have brought light into someones life today.
Amen.
