Common Worship Eucharist – an Introduction

Jim is running a four-week course, introducing the pattern of worship used on Sunday mornings.  The course is in two parts –

PART 1 (covering the sessions on Thursday 29th September and Thursday 6th October) –

• Why is the pattern of worship that we follow on a Sunday morning the way that it is?
• Why do some things change from week to week and way do some things stay the same?
• Who decides?
This part of the course will include a brief history of worship in the Church of England, a look at the ‘shape’ and main elements of the service and the different roles of the President, leader, congregation, etc.
If you have any specific questions, write them down and bring them the first week – every effort will be made to answer them at some point during the course!

PART 2 (covering the sessions on Thursdays 20th and 27th October) –
This part will look at some of the practicalities of preparing a service, the materials available in Common Worship and the options to be considered.
There will be an opportunity to share experience and ideas about best practice.
This part will be especially of interest to anyone involved in, or who would like to be involved in preparing or leading worship, including deacons/worship leaders, musicians, intercessors, readers, servers, etc., however anyone who has attended part 1 will be welcome.

All sessions are 7:00pm to 9:00pm at Saint Paul’s Church, Pendeford.  There is no cost, but donations will be accepted for refreshments and materials.  For more information, speak to Jim!

The Little Brothers need your help again

Firstly, a big THANK YOU to everyone who has been donating items for the Little Brothers of the Good Shepherd, to help support the homeless and those in great need.  There is a letter on the noticeboard at the back of church offering their thanks.

The Little Brothers have expressed a particular need at this time.  If you could offer men’s toiletries (e.g. razors, shaving foam, deodorant, combs, soap), they would be extremely grateful.

There is a collection box in the church foyer.
(Please feel free to continue donating tinned and dry foods and men’s clothing, if you wish).

Opening the Oasis on Saturdays

We would like to return to opening the Oasis for 2 hours every Saturday morning (between 10am and 12noon), for tea, coffee and biscuits.

If you can help, Bridget Campbell and Sue Ellick are trying to arrange a rota.  Even if you can only offer one or two Saturdays per year, please let them know.  Obviously, if you can offer more, they’d be delighted to hear from you too!

Quiet Service

In addition to our 10:30am services on Sundays, we are starting a brand new service.
The Quiet Service will be held each 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month, 7:00pm in the chapel.

As its name suggests, the service will be quiet and reflective – an opportunity to find some space for prayer and reflection during the week.  It will last no longer than 40 minutes.

The next service is tonight (20th September), then after that, Tuesday 4th October.
More details are available from Chris May.
