Selwyn Lecture

This year’s Annual Selwyn Lecture will be held at Lichfield Cathedral on Wednesday 12th October 2011 with guest speaker Professor John Lennox.

He is Professor of Mathematics in the University of Oxford, Fellow in Mathematics and the Philosophy of Science, and Pastoral Advisor at Green Templeton College, Oxford. He is also an adjunct Lecturer at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford University and at the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics and is a Senior Fellow of the Trinity Forum. In addition, he teaches for the Oxford Strategic Leadership Programme at the Executive Education Centre, Said Business School, Oxford University.

His most recent book, on the interface between science, philosophy and theology, is God’s Undertaker – Has Science Buried God? – Oxford, Lion-Hudson 2009. Prof Lennox has lectured extensively in North America, Eastern and Western Europe on mathematics, the philosophy of science and the intellectual defence of Christianity.

He debated Richard Dawkins on “The God Delusion” in the University of Alabama (2007) and on “Has Science buried God?” in the Oxford Museum of Natural History (2008). He has also debated Christopher Hitchens on the New Atheism (Edinburgh Festival 2008) and in Samford University, Alabama on the question: Is God Great?

‘The Selwyn Lectures are the diocese’s keynote theological training event of the year,’ said the Bishop of Lichfield, the Rt Revd Jonathan Gledhill, ‘and they are held in the memory of Bishop George Selwyn.

This information was first advertised in “The Bulletin”, a regular e-publication by the Diocese of Lichfield.

Bishop’s Certificate – “Spirituality”

“Spirituality” is the title of the latest unit of the Bishop’s Certificate course to be run in this parish.  Although it is designed to fit as part of the larger course, it can also be taken as a stand-alone course, with no requirement for you to have completed other units.

The unit comprises 8 sessions, exploring the spirituality of our Christian tradition.  It is open to anyone who is interested.  Rev’d Allen Roberts will be leading.

Starts Tuesday 13th September, 7:00pm at Church Cottage.

Journeying Together out very soon…

The latest edition of “Journeying Together” has now been sent to be printed.  We hope that copies will be available to collect from all three churches on Sunday.

The leaflet details courses, events and groups that are available to adults across the parish.  “Journeying Together” has a new format for this edition, covering only one term, rather than the whole year.  We hope that this will allow us to ensure that all information is up-to-date and accurate.

The leaflet is free, so please take one.  In fact, if you read it and think that something on there would appeal to someone you know, give them yours and grab another one the next time you’re in church!
