Could you serve in the Oasis?

Could you volunteer a few hours a week to serve in the café when it re-opens?  You would be working as part of a team of three and training will be given.  Each ‘shift’ would last about three hours.

Speak to Jim if you would like to know more.

More on the Oasis

The Oasis has been a busy place over the past few months.

  • Since the summer, Wolverhampton Homes residents have used the café as a respite space while their homes are refurbished.
  • During the summer holiday, Pendeford Kidzone provided their day-care in the hall and Oasis and it is hoped that their before-school breakfast club will soon be based in the Oasis.
  • Two groups run by the Dove Children’s Centre are currently running during the week – a ‘stay-and-play’ for parents with babies and young children, and a parenting group.
  • There are also the long-running Wednesday morning Bible study and fellowship group and the Thursday Over-50’s group, as well as Rainbows, Brownies and Guides.
  • While the school building work continues, the Oasis lobby is the entrance for the school office and has also become the nursery entrance.

Not just for coffee after church on a Sunday!

The Church Bell

Many will remember the bell which was housed in the porch of the old entrance to Saint Paul’s (roughly in the place where the altar is now positioned on a Sunday morning).  Sadly, there is nowhere in the new building where the bell can be safely housed and still used, so it has been stored unused for the past 5 years.

Happily, the bell has a new home – it was collected this week by the Anglican Diocese of Lesotho in Southern Africa, where it will once again be used to call people to worship.
Thanks to Michael May who arranged this.

Memorial

There will be an act of memorial as part of our 10:30am service on Sunday 31st October, when we shall remember before God those who have died.  During this, the names of those who have died will be read out and there will be an opportunity to light a candle in their memory.
There is a list at the back of church to record any names which you would like read out.

Following this service, the Memorial Book will be updated.  If you would like a name added to the book, there are forms available at the back of church or from Jim.

There will also be a parish memorial service at Saint Michael’s Church at 6:30pm on Sunday 31st October.  All are welcome.

Oddsock’s HamletA comedy by the company who did a hilarious Romeo and Juliet that we saw as a group last year.  Tuesday 7th December, Arena Theatre.

Volunteers required

The Deanery Synod (one of our church governing bodies) is being hosted by Saint Paul’s on the evening of 21st October.  We need volunteers to serve refreshments to our visitors.  If you have an hour or so to spare and are willing to help, please speak to Jim.
